AS FAR IN ADVANCE:
- Take pictures of everything
- Review all insurance coverages
- Set-up online insurance account
- Inventory of all personal property
- Photograph of all personal property
- Create a master list of accounts
- Service/repair hurricane shutters
- Recycle any unwanted hazardous materials
- Carbon monoxide detector
- Have pets micro-chipped
- Keep pet shots up-to-date
WEEK BEFORE THE STORM:
- Put up shutters
- CASH (Small bills are best)
- Trim trees, palm fronds & coconuts, etc.
- Give a spare key to a friend for safekeeping
- Keep fuel tanks filled
- Inspect tire pressure and check fluids
- Remove blades from exterior ceiling fans
- Remove and/or tie down exterior light fixtures
- Remove decorative plants, pots, statues, furniture
- Turn on Government Alerts (mobile phone)
- Fill lots of gallon-sized ziploc baggies w/ice
- Fill spill-proof gas cans & store in garage
- Set aside rubber boots & rain jacket w/hood
- Generator & gas (Per store manufacturers manual)
- Sandbags or large bags of potting soil
- If you decide to evacuate, Don’t Wait!
- Purchase boxed milk, oranges, grapefruits, & apples
- Empty freezer & refrigerator of all perishables
- Disposable hand-santitizer and/or baby wipes
- Inspect tire pressure
DAY OF THE STORM:
- Pull car into garage as far as possible
- Lock garage from the inside & put lift on “Manual” setting
- Turn off hot water heater & circuts
